Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim said that, faced with global challenges, Taiwan must strengthen information security to build a resilient, reliable and secure smart nation through cooperation between the government, industries and international partners.

Hsiao made the remarks while attending the opening ceremony of HITCON CISO Summit 2025 Oct. 22 in Taipei City, noting that this year’s theme is digital resilience.

Artificial intelligence, supply chain security and protection of critical infrastructure are directly connected to economic development and national security, Hsiao said, adding that Taiwan faces severe threats due to its pivotal role in the global high-tech industry. She emphasized that, as President Lai Ching-te has stated, cybersecurity lies at the core of advancing the Five Trusted Industry Sectors.

Confronted with compound threats such as cyberattacks and hybrid warfare, Taiwan cannot fight alone, the vice president said. She added that the government is implementing the seventh phase of its National Cybersecurity Development Program to strengthen legal frameworks and foster a sound industrial ecosystem through data sharing and technological collaboration with international partners.

Hsiao stressed that maintaining cybersecurity is not just the government’s responsibility but also that of every citizen. With information security forming a key pillar of overall social resilience, she expressed hope that more people will take part in safeguarding the digital environment, the Presidential Office said.
